It’s been a couple years since I read this novel, but I saw it referenced in an email today and when I saw the cover, I was immediately transported back to the places and spaces and characters of that story.
Since it stuck with me in such a visceral way, I decided I had to recommend it to you! It’s about two girls who are cousins, growing up together in two very close families. And just as the girls are getting ready to leave for college, a fissure opens up right in the middle of these families, changing everything.
Tensions build, relationships that previously seemed great are revealed to be less than great. The girls’ college plans are thrown up in the air, and little known facts begin to surface. It’s a psychologically thrilling, edge of your seat, how’s it going to end, heart-pounder.
The story is full of emotions and surprises, and kept me turning pages late into the night. I can’t remember details on specific content issues, but my overall reaction was that I loved it. And I’m pretty sure you will too. The story will be particularly poignant for anyone with kids close to leaving the nest.
